Our approach
As part of a multi-disciplinary design team, we were tasked with utilising a piece of redundant land next to Highfield Country Park in South Manchester. Our objective was to create affordable, high-quality family homes that were unique and attractive, rather than having a "matchbox" style.
The outcome was the development of 57 new homes, featuring either four or three bedrooms. Each home has spacious internal layouts and a strong connection to the outdoor space. To maximise natural light, the window openings are large. Given the proximity of a former brickworks, it was fitting to use brick as the primary building material. We combined red and buff colours, along with timber cladding, to create a diverse yet harmonious aesthetic for the development.
To ensure a sustainable and environmentally conscious development, we incorporated features such as high insulation levels and PV panels. Additionally, we introduced ecology features to enhance the natural environment within and around the country park.
